Ultra DMA

UDMA doubles the speed of IDE data transfer rates. Almost all of the Drives available today are UDMA capable, as well as most mainboards. To view Intel's FAQ on Ultra DMA IDE, click here

Fat 32 speed

FAT32 is often mistakenly thought to improve hard disk performance. While there are benefits to FAT32, hard disk reading and writing speed are not among them. In most installations, FAT32 disk performance is relatively equal to FAT16 disk performance on the same machine. More on Fat32, click here

Size limitations.

LBA - If a system BIOS does not allow a hard drive to run in LBA mode, your formatted size for DOS will be limited to 512 MB regardless of the size of the drive. Solution: Upgrade the hardware, or run a disk manager for your drive. Note: this only applies to Microsoft operating systems.

BIOS Limits - There are some BIOS that would not read drives over 2 GB in size, this includes the Award BIOS that we distributed with the earlier Pentium boards. Solution: Upgrade the hardware, or run a disk manager for your drive.

FAT 16 - DOS and Windows95 release A used a FAT 16 operating system which limits the total partition size to 2 GB. Solution: Use multiple partitions or upgrade the system to Windows 95 B with a FAT 32 partition.

Windows NT - Windows NT 4.0 and the NTFS file system limit the boot partition of the operating system to 2 GB. Solution: This is how it is, don't fight the power
