DVD
The Digital Versatile Disc (also
commonly referred to as Digital Video Disc) is destined to change the way we watch movies
and archive large amounts of data. Nearly identical in size and appearance to existing
CD-ROMs, the new DVDs provide 4.7GB of data standard, and can provide up to 17GB by
placing two layers of data on a side and using both sides of the disc for recording.
Recordable DVD drives should be available soon. DVD drives can read CD-ROMs as well,
though the new DVD-2 drives are required for reading CD-Rs.
